Ida Marie Hansen - Birth Story

This is pretty long. Just warnin ya.

SOOOO there is a lot that went on that I know I won’t remember to write about so I will just do my best. Alright, my 40 week check up appointment was Thursday, August 10, 2017. Taner got work off and was able to come with me. We thought the baby would come soon and maybe even that day but I packed to stay at my sisters house just in case that didn’t happen. We went to the appointment. I was still only dilated to a 1. Like I had been for the past few weeks. My doctor asked me what I wanted to happen get induced and have this baby soon or wait until it comes naturally. I said soon, of course. Then she said okay go over to the hospital in an hour. WHAT. I didn't realize it was going to be THHAAATT soon. Didn't really think it would be that weekend at all. We went over to my sister, Tessa's house and got some food while we waited for time to pass by. That time flew by and before we knew it we were checking in at the hospital.

Once we got to the hospital we had to fill out a billion different paperwork and things. I didn't mind because I wasn't prepared to give birth. The staff at the hospital were all SUPER nice and really funny. They kept saying that I looked twelve and that Taner robbed the cradle. Little do they know I am the cradle robber ;) hahah. After we got done with all of that stuff a sweet/hilarious lady walked us to our gigantic room. It was bigger than our apartment. Seriously, Southern Hills Hospital is THEE place to go guys. They put an IV in my arm and hooked me up to some fluid. The nurse was telling me what they were gonna do to get my contractions going. Putting it simply because I don't know any medical terms.. what they do is crush up a pill and put it up your lady parts. It is weird, guys. Feels like sand. So the plan was to put a pill in every four hours and by the third pill I should start having contractions. Ha wrong (in Trumps voice). I fell asleep and apparently I slept through these hardcore contractions. Honestly, I don't know how. So by the time that they were going to give me the second one they decided not to and to give me more fluid to calm the contractions down. I was still just dilated to a 1. After that I couldn't sleep at all. By this time it was around 1:00 a.m. Taners parents had came and visited and we were all kind of just waiting. Nothing was happening.

The nurse came back in and had decided to give me the second pill and then she left and told us to push the nurse button if we needed anything. Well, Taners parents had left and those horrid contractions came back. I was in some serious pain. Like I thought I was giving birth at that moment. I waited a little while because I didn't want to be a baby and call her right away. I had the contractions for about 45 min and then we decided to call the nurse. No one ever came. About 15 min later we pushed the button again. No one came, again. By this time I was like yelling in pain. Not any words just yelling haha. I asked Taner to go out and get a nurse. I didn't care who. He went out there and they said they hadn't received anything and that our button might be broken but our nurse was on the other side of the hospital right then. WHAT. They said they would call and tell her but we would have to wait. What felt like a lifetime was about 30 min. I needed to go to the bathroom which is like the worst thing when you are hooked up to an IV and having contractions that feel like the devil himself is trying to kill you. Anyways, I went and came back and when I got back on the bed I heard a snap kind of thing and then it felt like I had pee'd my pants. I thought maybe it was my water that broke. The nurse came in and was making jokes about how high my contractions were. I was not in the joking mood. I was on the verge of tears. She went to check me and then all this fluid just gushed all over her haha. That ruptured my water hahaha that is what she gets for joking with me. Just kidding. She checked me and I remember her saying I was at a 4. Taner remembers her saying I was at a 3. Either way, I could get my epidural finally so I was just happy about that.

The epidural dude seemed to take his time on getting there. But, he made it. The contractions were pretty bad. Like you can't describe them. He wanted to tell me what he was doing and I told him I didn't want to know. I sat up and held on to Taner. I couldn't even think about the epidural because I was too distracted by the pain of the contractions. I am thankful for that. Taner was also on the verge of passing out so he sat down on the floor and I was trying to comfort him and make sure he was okay. The nurses were teasing him a lot saying that he should be the one comforting me. It did help me take my mind off of any pain, though. The epidural was great and the guy who did it was awesome and patient and nice. Once that kicked in life was great. I could still feel the contractions but it was more like a pressure which I was fine with. I dilated pretty quickly after that. I seemed to go up a number every 15 min. Soon enough I was at a 10 and the doctor came. About a billion nurses came along with her. Ida had the chord wrapped around her neck and every time I had contractions her heartbeat would drop, a lot. So they had some specialty people in there, too. In case anything went wrong. Before I knew it they were holding my legs and telling me to push. So that is what I did.

At this point.. young and nieve me didn't know I was actually giving birth. I thought like I would push but the baby wasn't actually coming out. Like there would be another step later on. Nope. She was coming. Even when they kept saying I see her hair. I didn't really understand. Until Taner said.. "Well, there's her head". And I think that is when I was like what the crap? This baby is seriously about to come out of me. And after an hour of pushing, she did. She came at 8:40 a.m on Friday August 11th. They pulled her out and put her on my chest right away. I loved her so much. I'm crying just typing that because I didn't know I could love someone so instantly and so much. They took her and bathed her and things. They did that all right in the room and I just stared in disbelief that she was ours. Taner was over by them watching her get warm under that heater thing. After her heart rate went to normal they gave her back to me and we have been inseparable ever since. ;) We had not even thought about an actual name to give her. We had discussed a lot of names before but never really decided. Taners mom was like i'll leave the room so you can decide on a name. As soon as she walked out Taner said, "Ida" and I said "yep". So that is our girl.. Ida Marie Hansen. Weighing 7.1 pounds and 19 inches long. As beautiful as can be. I even think we might have another someday. It was fun.

Two weeks later. I still can't believe she is ours. She is such a good eater. That was one of my biggest fears. She sleeps & poops good, too. I am so proud hah. She did great at her newborn checkup. Really she has lightened my life and taught me so much in such a short amount of time. As far as recovery has gone. It has been great. I feel like I am healing faster than I think normal. I started working again this week and it has been so awesome being able to bring her with me or have her grandmas watch her. We really have been SUPER blessed. We love our little family and we are SO excited to see what adventures will come next as she grows. The lack of sleep, poopy diapers, cries, feedings and everything else really is worth it.
